Discussion Questions:

  1. What is the setting of this narrative? See Mark 5:21. Cp. with 5:1

  2. What are the two issues that are presented in this passage?

  3. How is the narrative a lesson for the woman as well as those who are witnessing the events?

  4. Does the woman display a public or private faith at first? Prove your answer.

  5. How does the Lord press the woman to publicly display her faith? What familial term does the Lord use and how does it bring comfort to the woman?

Applications:

The Christian life is never to be lived in secret. It is not a matter of your faith alone. True faith in Christ is lived out before a watching world.

  1. We live in a fallen world which means we will be brought to trials, troubles, suffering, and a host of other things. We must look to Christ throughout them all.

  2. Ministry is filled with interruptions. It was true in the life and ministry of the Savior and it is true for ministers today.

  3. A “private faith” is insufficient for followers of Christ. You cannot live your life as a “private Christian.” In what ways have you been living a “private Christianity?”

  4. True discipleship costs something. What price are you paying to be a faithful, public follower of the Lord?

  5. Remember that the Lord will publicly acknowledge his people. As he did for this woman, he will do for all of us.
