Week Ending January 20, 2024

Parents, and especially fathers, are called to raise their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Deut. 6:7; Eph. 6:4). One aspect of this calling is to faithfully lead your family in family worship. There are many ways to do that. Below are some suggested family readings and topics of conversation.

~Lord’s Day, Jan. 14~

Read Hebrews 1:1-14. Consider the office of the prophet. What is involved with being a prophet?  Discuss a few of the more prominent prophets of the Old Testament.

~Monday, Jan. 15~

Read Hosea 6. Discuss obedience and sacrifice. Why does God desire the former instead of the latter? Discuss the reference to the “two days” and “third day” (6:2).

~Tuesday, Jan. 16~

Read Hebrews 1:1-14. Discuss the functions of the final prophet, as mentioned in this chapter. Discuss the office of prophet as given in WSC 24.

~Wednesday, Jan. 17~

Read Hosea 6. Discuss the way in which God uses discipline and judgment to restore his people. Discuss what it means to seek the “knowledge of God.”

~Thursday, Jan. 18~

Read Hebrews 1:1-14. Diss the purpose of angels as given in this chapter. Discuss how they minister to God’s people. Discuss how they are a type of prophet.

~Friday, Jan. 19~

Read Hosea 6. Discuss the ways God’s people violated the covenant. Discuss the ways we can do so today. Discuss the solution to sin and the hope of the Gospel.

~Saturday, Jan. 20~

Read Hebrews 1:1-14. Discuss the ways in which this chapter highlights the priestly office of Christ. Discuss the different attributes of God as given in this chapter. Supplemental: Use the worship guide sent by the pastor on Saturday in preparation for worship on Jan. 21.
