Daily Prayer for January 25, 2025: Westminster Larger Catechism Q1
Q. 1. What is the chief and highest end of man?
A. Man’s chief and highest end is to glorify God, and fully to enjoy him forever.
Prayer: Our Father, we thank you for creating and fashioning us after your image. We thank you for your infinite wisdom and grace, promising us hope through the work of your beloved Son, redeeming us from the misery of sin that our first parents subjected us to due to their rebellion against you. You made us on the sixth day to worship you. Yet, sin got in the way, and that barrier was erected between us and you. We were cast away from your comfortable presence, but now, through the work of the Great High Priest, we are invited back to you to honor and adore you and to offer our lives a living sacrifice before you. We have been bought with a price and are now called to glorify you in whatever we find ourselves doing. Though we know that our chief and highest end is to glorify you in thought, word, and deed, we fall short of what you demand and deserve. We are thankful that your Son did for us what we cannot do, but we still want to honor you. Please forgive us, Father, for failing to honor you with our thoughts in many ways. Too often, our thoughts are filled with our selfish interests. Too frequently, our words betray our profession and love for you. Too often, our actions speak something very different than the calling you have placed on us. Please help us to remember why you made and redeemed us. Please help us to learn and understand that we can only enjoy you when we honor and obey you. Please grant us the help we need because we are weak creatures of dust. Thank you for hearing us and helping us as you promised. We pray these things through Christ our Lord. Amen.
