Daily Prayer for February 7, 2025: Psalm 28
To you, O Lord, I call;
my rock, be not deaf to me,
lest, if you be silent to me,
I become like those who go down to the pit.
2 Hear the voice of my pleas for mercy,
when I cry to you for help,
when I lift up my hands
toward your most holy sanctuary.
3 Do not drag me off with the wicked,
with the workers of evil,
who speak peace with their neighbors
while evil is in their hearts.
4 Give to them according to their work
and according to the evil of their deeds;
give to them according to the work of their hands;
render them their due reward.
5 Because they do not regard the works of the Lord
or the work of his hands,
he will tear them down and build them up no more.
6 Blessed be the Lord!
For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy.
7 The Lord is my strength and my shield;
in him my heart trusts, and I am helped;
my heart exults,
and with my song I give thanks to him.
8 The Lord is the strength of his people;
he is the saving refuge of his anointed.
9 Oh, save your people and bless your heritage!
Be their shepherd and carry them forever.
(Psalm 28:1-9)
Prayer: We bless your Name, O Most High, because you are good, and your mercies endure forever. We praise you because we can come to you and plead a just cause, knowing that you, our heavenly Father, will hear us as we cry out to you. We thank you for this great privilege of prayer by which we commune with the God who made, ordained, and accomplished everything. We know that the price for this ability was high. Through the blood of your beloved Son, we have been given access through the veil to the Most Holy Place to pray and plead with you. Yet, Father, we confess our weak faith. We acknowledge there are times when we find you to be far off. We confess that there are times when we wonder if you are listening to us. We know it isn't true, but there are times when we feel it. We are weak creatures of dust and lament our miserable condition for thinking these things. Please forgive us and help us in our weakness. We do believe! Please help our unbelief! We cry out to you, our God and Father, because there are circumstances in this life that are miserable and hard to endure. Evil people often assail us. We are often betrayed by those we thought were our friends. We grow weary of the influence of sin in this world and the many ways we suffer. Please hear us as we offer our prayers! Please give heed to our voice and rescue us from the suffering, trials, hurt, pain, and sorrow that come to us.
We pray for you to vindicate us. We pray for our enemies, asking that you bring them to repentance through the work of the Eternal Spirit. We ask you to act with righteous judgment because you have said that vengeance belongs to you, and you will repay. Please help us to trust you in these times and turn in praise and thanksgiving to you for all you give us. We know we deserve nothing good from your hand, yet you provide and care for us, and for that, we are grateful. Please continue to guide us all our days we ask and pray through the Name of the Good Shepherd of the Sheep, the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
