Discussion Questions:
The work of divine providence is in view in 4:25. How?
The stage is set in 4:37. What are the issues facing the disciples? What is Jesus doing? What lesson can be learned from the contrasting attitudes and actions of the people in the boat?
What attitude is displayed by the disciples in 4:38? How does Jesus respond to them?
What is the purpose of the two questions in 4:40?
How do the disciples respond to the actions of the Savior?
Applications: Thomas Brooks: “God, who is infinite in wisdom and matchless in goodness, hath ordered our troubles, yea, many troubles to come trooping in upon us on every side. As our mercies, so our crosses seldom come single; they usually come treading one upon the heels of another; they are like April showers, no sooner is one over but another comes. It’s mercy that every affliction is not an execution, every correction not a damnation. The more the afflictions, the more the heart is raised heavenward.”
As Christians, we must not expect everything to sail smoothly along in our pilgrimage.
Our afflictions are designed for us. Through them, we must see more of the glory of the Lord.
Through our afflictions, we must learn to cry out to our glorious Lord.
