Daily Prayer for October 7, 2020

Prayer: Our God in heaven, we look out across our land and our world, and we see so many people living in rebellion against you. We witness the depravity of wicked people being exercised in the street. We hear the speech that is laden with vitriol and language that displeases you. We look, and we take note that men made in your image, with the law of God written on their hearts, are living in complete rebellion to your law and your holy demands. We are ashamed of these image-bearers and all of their actions. We know that if not for the glorious gospel, we too would walk as they walk. We, too, would be like these people who are darkened in their understanding. We lament our current circumstances and cry out to you for help and grace. We plead with you, our Father, that you would open the eyes and ears of these people. We ask that you would show them their foolishness and insolent pride. We beg you to do what no man can do. We confess to you our own sin in failing to seek your kingdom and righteousness. We acknowledge with shame that we often go astray in our own hearts doing things you have told us not to do and not doing what you have told us to do. We grieve our own short-sighted ways and how often we are consumed with the things of this life. Help us, Father, to set our minds on things above and not on the fleeting things of this earth. Help us to walk as children of light in a perverse and evil generation. We pray this in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
