Daily Prayer for November 19, 2024: Psalm 6

O Lord, rebuke me not in your anger,
    nor discipline me in your wrath.
Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am languishing;
    heal me, O Lord, for my bones are troubled.
My soul also is greatly troubled.
    But you, O Lord—how long?

Turn, O Lord, deliver my life;
    save me for the sake of your steadfast love.
For in death there is no remembrance of you;
    in Sheol who will give you praise?

I am weary with my moaning;
    every night I flood my bed with tears;
    I drench my couch with my weeping.
My eye wastes away because of grief;
    it grows weak because of all my foes.

Depart from me, all you workers of evil,
    for the Lord has heard the sound of my weeping.
The Lord has heard my plea;
    the Lord accepts my prayer.
All my enemies shall be ashamed and greatly troubled;
    they shall turn back and be put to shame in a moment.

Prayer: Our Father, you alone are holy and good and have given us your commands to safeguard our journey to our heavenly rest. We thank you for your Word that is a light to our path, but we know that we daily sin against your law in thought, word, and deed. As such, you sometimes discipline us because we are your adopted children. Though those times are sometimes hard to bear, we know you do it out of love for us. Father, we pray that you will forgive us for those times we wander from your commands. We are like sheep that often go astray. We are ashamed at how easily we are turned to the left or to the right, and we are embarrassed at how slow we learn. Please forgive us for not loving your law and walking in fear of you. We thank you for your rod of discipline because it proves we are sons and not enemies. We thank you for forgiving us and using these times of discipline to conform us into the image of your Son. We pray that you will not rebuke us beyond what we can bear. We pray that you will be gracious and show us your infinite patience as we seek to honor you. Though we fall short, we are thankful for your kindness.

Father, we pray that you will guide us all our days, teaching us to love you with our hearts. We pray that you will teach us to trust you and not lean on our understanding. We pray that you will protect us from the efforts of the Evil One by not leading us into temptation. We pray that you will humble us and work in us godly fear of you. We pray for a more profound love for your law and that you will cause us to glorify you in all we do. We pray these things through Christ our Lord. Amen.
