Daily Prayer for January 29, 2025: Psalm 21

O Lord, in your strength the king rejoices,
    and in your salvation how greatly he exults!
You have given him his heart's desire
    and have not withheld the request of his lips.
For you meet him with rich blessings;
    you set a crown of fine gold upon his head.
He asked life of you; you gave it to him,
    length of days forever and ever.
His glory is great through your salvation;
    splendor and majesty you bestow on him.
For you make him most blessed forever;
    you make him glad with the joy of your presence.
 For the king trusts in the Lord,
    and through the steadfast love of the Most High he shall not be moved.

Your hand will find out all your enemies;
    your right hand will find out those who hate you.
You will make them as a blazing oven
    when you appear.
The Lord will swallow them up in his wrath,
    and fire will consume them.
You will destroy their descendants from the earth,
    and their offspring from among the children of man.
Though they plan evil against you,
    though they devise mischief, they will not succeed.
For you will put them to flight;
    you will aim at their faces with your bows.

Be exalted, O Lord, in your strength!
    We will sing and praise your power.
(Psalm 21:1-13, ESV)

Prayer: Our God in heaven, we thank you for your grace and mercy and for not treating us as we deserve. You are holy, and we are not, and to think that you hear us when we pray and are mindful of our needs is something deserving of our gratitude and adoration. Unlike the deaf idols of this world, you listen to us. Unlike those idols who can do nothing, you work exceedingly and abundantly beyond anything we ask of you. You are no respecter of persons. Therefore, just as you heard the prayers of your servant, David, you hear us as we cry out to you in our exile and pilgrimage to our heavenly rest. We confess that we often forget to thank you for your answers. Too frequently, we fail to stop and thank you for your mercies in hearing us and acting in ways that are agreeable to your will and good for us. Please, our God, forgive our ingratitude and teach us to be thankful as we labor to serve you. Please help us remember all the ways you hear and act according to the desires of our hearts. Please, our God, make our desires agreeable to your Word. Thank you for hearing us when we pray and blessing us with your infinite mercy. We pray these things through Christ our Lord. Amen.
