Daily Prayer for December 11, 2024: Psalm 25:4-5

Make me to know your ways, O Lord;
teach me your paths.
Lead me in your truth and teach me,
for you are the God of my salvation;
for you I wait all the day long. (Psalm 25:4-5, ESV)

Prayer: Grant to us, almighty God, a deeper understanding of your divine will and your acts of providence in our lives. Your Word declares that you are in the heavens, and you do whatever pleases you. We pray, “Your will be done on earth as it is done in heaven,” and yet, we struggle, at times, to understand what it is you are doing. We know that if you told us, we would likely respond in disbelief, but we also know that you are not obligated to tell us your purposes in every case. Too often, Lord, we are sinfully curious about your actions. We have been given enough information in your Word to know that all you do is good and right, bathed in perfect holiness and righteousness. We are told that you are working for the good of your redeemed people, conforming your church into the image of her husband, the Lord Jesus Christ. You have told us enough to know that we are to trust you and your divine will in all things, leaning not on our understanding of things and events. Yet, like the psalmist, we pray, “Make me to know your ways, O LORD.” We know that your ways are often mysterious and that we must trust you in those times. We do not know what today will bring. We are unsure of tomorrow. We must rest in you. Please help us to do that today. Please lead us in the truth of your revealed will as the God of our salvation who works for our good in all things. Forgive us for those times of doubt, and grant us great trust in you all of our days. We pray these things through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
